Why We're Actually Here ☯️
We didn't build this retreat to be "watched." We built it because we needed it first.
Before Branches was a business, it was two nurses sitting in a circle of 20+ strangers, learning to trust things neither of us could explain. A meditation event in 2019. Neither of us knew the person next to us would become a creative partner, a mirror, one of the most significant relationships of our lives. We didn't plan it. We didn't manufacture it. The medicine introduced us before we even knew we were looking.
We've sat with grief. We've done the shadow work nobody claps for — the kind that doesn't come with a certificate. And we both met the same terrifying, necessary call: to leave the limited spaces behind. The "9-to-5" that felt like a slow dimming. The relationships that asked us to stay small. We walked away — not because it was easy, but because staying had become more painful than leaving.
The Shadow Years
For the past 8 years we've been doing deep, relentless inner work — diving into hidden traumas, sitting with grief, facing the parts of ourselves that were easier to avoid. We didn't take shortcuts. We still don't.
The REALization
Somewhere in there, something shifted. We realized wholeness isn't found only in processing pain — it needs the other end too. Joy. Not as an escape from the shadow, but as an equal, essential part of it.
Why This Matters for YOU
When we say we're "called" to this work, we don't mean we have it all figured out. We mean we know what it's like to still be IN it — messy, unfinished, human. That's exactly why this container works: you don't need to be healed to belong here. You just need to be honest. And being honest, being REAL, means embracing your Humanness instead of hiding it. We've decided it's TIME to go ALL IN and co-create The Embodied Medicine Playground from the roots up — and we'd LOVE to build it with YOU.
And that's part of why this retreat lives virtually. Sacred space shouldn't require a plane ticket, a "readiness," or the "right" circumstances to show up. What We Mean by "Embodied Medicine"
"Embodied Medicine" isn't a single modality — it's a universal framework, and it moves through each of us differently.
At its root is a simple understanding: Fear left unfelt becomes DIS-ease. When we disconnect from our bodies, our stories, our TRUTH, that disconnection doesn't just stay in the mind — it lives in the body, it calcifies, it shows up as pain, as patterns, as blockages. LOVE is the antidote. Not love as a concept, but LOVE as an embodied energetic way of BEing — the willingness to feel, to soften, to come home to yourSELF again & again.
For Maria, Embodied Medicine predominantly shows up as Vulnerability & Authenticity — her Humanness, worn without apology. It's what happens when a nurse who's held space in Hospice settings also holds space in ceremony, and lets both truths exist in one body. For Sam, it looks like uncovering all that is not, and radically accepting the beauty of who our souls truly are — the gifts within that far exceed any human conditioned belief. It's the soul dancing in the body for a badass human experience, held by deep acceptance, boundaries, and a wide-open heart. Love that isn't transactional or conditional. Alive, freeing, joyful, and a little quirky.
Together, their Medicine looks like two women choosing to show up real, unfiltered, & whole — because that's what gives you permission to do the same.
Embodied Medicine is what happens when you stop performing wellness and start feeling it. When fear gets metabolized instead of suppressed. When LOVE isn't just spoken, but lived — in the body, through the body, as the body.
This is the thread that runs through everything we offer. Not healing as an idea but healing as something you feel in your bones. AND TRUTHS that you live every single day.

This is where it gets good. And this is what Sam & Maria know from their own lived experience. They didn't build this retreat from theory. They built it from their own transformations. The medicine from The Embodied Medicine Playground doesn't have a shelf life. It doesn't peak on the last day and fade by the time you're back in your regular routine. A Brief Glimpse of our Embodied Medicine Retreat 2025
This is what happened when we gathered on the sacred land of Tico Time River Resort for the first Embodied Medicine Retreat, in August of 2025. What began as a gathering of strangers became something far more rare — a community of humans who remembered, together, what it means to be fully alive.
We laughed until our stomachs hurt and cried until our hearts cracked open. We sang and danced without apology. We dressed up in costumes and let our inner children completely take over. We painted rocks, planted a tree, and pressed our hands into the earth to connect with and heal the land beneath our feet. We shamanic journeyed into the depths of ourselves, moved energy through breathwork, yoga and sound baths, opened our hearts in sacred cacao ceremony, and sat around the fire sharing the truths we'd been carrying. We released what no longer served us — in ceremony, in the river, in each other's presence. We cooked and ate family dinners together, swam in the river, and yes — went down waterslides with the kind of unfiltered joy that no healing modality can replicate.
And through ALL of it, something deeper was happening beneath the surface. Each person began to tune into their own embodied medicine — the unique ways love and passion want to express themselves through them in this lifetime. Not someone else's version. Not the version the world assigned them. Theirs. Wholly, beautifully, unmistakably theirs.

Is this a plant medicine or psychedelic retreat?
Not at all — and we love that you asked. Even though it's called the Embodied Medicine Experience, we will not be serving or facilitating any plant medicine or psychedelics (with the exception of Mama Cacao in our virtual ceremony 🍫 — prepare yours at home and join us live). We will however teach you how to journey to the energy/essence/Spirit of some medicinal plants that can work as your allies in your own healing process.
The most powerful medicine we're working with is YOU. Your embodied medicine — the unique way love and passion want to express themselves through you in this lifetime. This is a fully sober experience. We're simply here to help you remember what was already inside you all along.
